Welcome to our initial Newsletter

August 2006

Welcome to Tomet Manufacturing’s initial newsletter.

We hope to use this a vehicle to bring you up to date on happenings with Tomet that will help you gain a better understanding on who we are, what we are doing, and how we are striving to constantly get better at delivering the best possible value to our customers, employees, and community.

The current owner of Tomet is Richard Bibb, a 28 year veteran of the information technology industry.  During his career, Richard held a variety of management positions in sales and general management with a number of companies such as Cisco, Fore Systems, Ciena, and Redback Networks with responsibility for sales of their products to government and industry customers on a world-wide basis.  This background provides Richard with a broad-based background in the telecommunications, defense, and aerospace markets – coincidentally some of the primary market segments that Tomet addresses today.

Having worked for a number of manufacturers that produced products for demanding customers in these markets, Richard brings a well-honed appreciation for the need for high-quality execution to the operation of Tomet combined with a keen appreciation of the benefits and limitations advanced information technology can bring to a business the size of Tomet that, until recently, was only available to the largest corporations.

Given his background Richard intends to focus on improving customer service through the application of technology, where appropriate, and, by utilizing his background in building and growing large customer facing organizations, providing increased emphasis on improved human interaction for our customers as well.

In addition to focusing on external interaction with our customers, another emphasis will be on improved communication and process improvement internally designed to speed up production processes and increase production throughput while increasing on-time delivery.

Examples of projects that have been initiated to address these issues are a revamp of Tomet’s internal enterprise resource planning IT infrastructure to improve production scheduling.  An eventual goal of this upgrade will be to offer customer access via a dedicated web portal for order status inquiries, for example.  Other similar projects include upgrading to full EDI compliance for electronic commerce with major customers and suppliers - all designed to streamline to process from RFQ to product delivery.

For a company of around 25 employees these may seem like ambitious goals but, with the falling prices of hardware and advanced software such capabilities are well within reach and provide the critical systems required not only to improve operations for a Tomet with 25 employees but the scalability to enable efficient growth to 250 employees and beyond.

While it takes all sorts of enterprises to fuel an economy as diverse and dynamic as the Untied States’ it is still the manufacturing sector that is the, in the word’s of former New York Yankee great Reggie Jackson, “straw that stirs the drink”, in our opinion.  At Tomet we are proud of our contribution, as a key member of some terrific organization’s supply chains, to making America’s manufacturing sector the most dynamic, productive, and envy of the world.  By working hard to get better each and every day we will continue to do our part in keeping America strong.
